The Cateura Orchestra of recycled instruments, that uses musical instruments built out of waste material, are on tour in Spain.
On 2nd January they played at the Kursaal Convention Centre and Auditorium in San Sebastián, accompanied by singer/songwriter Mikel Erentxun and the Orfeón Donostiarra (Donostiarra Choir).
On 4th January they finish off their tour in Madrid, at the Teatro Real, where they will be joined by singer/songwriter Manuel Carrasco and violinist Judith Mateo with the participation of TV presentator Christian Gálvez.
The children from “Recycled Music” will take part in the concert, a Project of Ecoembes, sponsor of the tour. This project was developed through the inspiration of the Cateura Recycled Orchestra and combines education, culture and recycling.
The money raised during the tour is destined for the Foundation of the Cateura Orchestra which is made up of the parents of the child musicians and the orchestra´s director and founder, Favio Chávez.
With the money obtained from the concerts given last Christmas, the organization built four houses for the families of four of its members”.

Sustainable Social and Personal Development
The Cateura Recycled Orchestra comprises children and young people at risk of social exclusion, who come from the capital of Paraguay, Asunción.
One of its districts, Cateura, is built on a rubbish dump, which has been the source of material for making marvellous musical instruments; a whole orchestra of violins, violas, cellos, double basses, guitars, flutes, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion instruments.
This exemplary programme began thanks to the initiative of the environmental technician and musical director, Favio Chávez, who started off the project 10 years ago determined to improve people´s quality of life. For once music and recycling went hand in hand to carry out important social work
The world sends us rubbish and we give it back music.”
The orchestra once again resonates with its message of personal growth and sustainable care of the environment
Recycling, besides preserving our surroundings, offers a second chance to find the best version of oneself.
